Our Top Picks: HGTV Fresh Faces of Design 2015

Crazy for Color | House of Many Styles   When HGTV approached us to submit our work for this year’s HGTV Fresh Faces of Design Competition, we knew exactly which house to send. If you’ve been a longtime follower of our Facebook or Instagram, you’ve had a private tour behind one of downtown’s historic row houses that boasts an interior far from “cookie cutter”. Full of color, texture, and branded spaces that speak to each family member’s personality, West Perry is undoubtedly one of our favorite projects to date. We’re honored to be a part of a curated selection of other talent across the country that puts just as much emphasis on designing a branded environment; ensuring a space that both reflects the homeowner and can easily evolve along with their lifestyle. And now, we need your help to claim the title of winner in either the Master Retreats or Crazy for Color…

New Brass + Copper Lighting from Barn Light Electric

If design trends have taught us anything over the past several years, it’s that popular metallic finishes like brass and copper are here to stay. Up until now, the lighting industry has made leaps and bounds with decorative fixtures, but the industrial aesthetic kept to its familiar finishes: enamel and galvanized steel. All of that is changing now thanks to Barn Light Electric, a forerunner in the industrial lighting biz and a particularly favorite vendor for some of our commercial projects (think farm-to-table in Asheville and future Savannah-based butcher shop). If you’re looking to add a bit of shine to your next kitchen, bath, or commercial project, check out some of our favorite picks from the new collection. Having trouble with scale and placement? Give us a ring – we’d be happy to help. Sources: 1. Outback Industrial Brass Pendant / 2. Bowie Copper Wall Sconce / 3. Fargo…

Our Top Picks: Bath Tub Essentials

As a small design house with several large projects on our plate, we get the need to unwind after a long day. For some it’s kicking their feet up and enjoying a favorite TV show, and for others, it’s being in good company over a well-prepared meal. But perhaps one of the most sought-after “happy places” of all time is a place not too far from home: the bath tub. Today we’re celebrating ways people wash away the stress of their day and cleanse themselves for the morning to come. Before you touch the faucet and grab the candles, make sure your bathroom oasis is packed with these five tub time essentials. 1. Soak the day away with this natural mineral blend from Barr-Co. Made of milk, oatmeal, vanilla, and vetiver, its known to soothe irritated skin and create a protective barrier to keep in moisture long…

From vessels to interesting objects, accessories are what bring personal touches into a space. When looking to make a strong impact, less is more; choose a few items with bold color and interesting shape versus too many. In our years of practice, nothing cuts through a tablescape or bookcase like a stroke of black. Leave the tchotchkes at grandma’s house and let a dark silhouette make a strong statement with our top picks below: Sources 1. 3-Piece Pyramid Object Set – Dwell Studio / 2. Horace – Made Goods / 3. Bitters Bottle – Michele Varian / 4. Branch Annona Vase – Barneys / 5. Smythson Panama Watch Box – Barneys / 6. 3-Piece Star Objet Set – Dwell Studio / 7. Iron Bird – Jonathan Adler

Our Top Picks: Industrial Pendant Lights

Image via Whether anchoring down a dining table or lighting a kitchen island, industrial pendant lights have come a long way from their warehouse counterparts. Available in a range of finishes, some more contemporary than others, these hanging pendants provide a large scale lighting solution for your home. When specifying an industrial light, be sure to take into consideration the drop height, the type of drop (rod or chain), and the amount of light it will shed. Most metal shades will cast a focused downlight, requiring additional lighting in the space. If you’re hoping to let one of these pendants stand solo, be sure to pick out a shade that allows light to escape, as seen below in #6.
