Rethink returns from NYC!

We’re back!  We had such a great time in NYC and there is sooo much to see that we barely scraped the surface.  We put together a little collage of images from our time there- Brooklyn, Chelsea, the Subway and more.  Unfortunately the weather was a bit dreary most of the time but we made the best of it.  Although only a quarter of the booths showed up for the Brooklyn Flea- it was still a really great experience and showing of all different types coming together.   ICFF was another good display of a huge number of vendors and artisans- I’ll be posting some of our highlights later this week.

I wish I had a pedometer to log the amount of walking we did but I have to say I enjoyed walking over the subway (making your way to Brooklyn from the West Village on a Sunday is just no fun).  We returned via the bridge and were able to see the city from a whole new vantage point.

Our apartment in the West Village was adorable- we’ll call it warm bohemian mid century modern.  It was cozy, well styled, and in a great location.  (The pictures came out blurry so you’ll have to take my word for it)

I’d also like to mention how great the food is in New York- you have every option under the sun!  Some of the highlights:

Room Service.  Definitely try the fresh Mojito- it’s well worth the wait.   Also, be sure to get the sticky rice and ask for a side of peanut sauce…AMAZING (I’m currently contemplating having them send me weekly care packages of the stuff).

Freemans.  Same sort of vibe as our cozy bohemian apartment but with superb food and drinks.  The restaurant is in an old house at the end of an alley so you’d miss it if you weren’t looking- but make it a point to go.  Try the Devils on Horseback- Dates stuffed with blue cheese and wrapped in bacon.

Arturo’s.  A classic New York pizza joint serving coal-oven pizza with a slice of history and a side of live jazz.  We shared the Marguerita pizza and topped it with the arugula salad- yum!

Check back in over the next few days for our ICFF Round Up and our Brooklyn Flea Finds.

Rethink Design “Hits the Road”

Bags are packed, guide in hand…Rethink is off to New York City for ICFF (International Contemporary Furniture Fair).  We’re staying in one of our favorite neighborhoods: the West Village, so we’ll also be hitting Soho, Chelsea flea market, and Brooklyn along the way.  We’ll keep you posted on our adventures so check back soon!

Spring Terrain

Spring is here!  And let me just say… I L-O-V-E spring.  It’s as though the end of winter is the weight off your shoulders that you never even knew was there.  As soon as little green buds start to accumulate everywhere I am instantly transformed.  I want to be outside: gardening, puttering, playing fetch with the dogs, planning a party, cooking and creating a delectable mixed drink for said party, etc…

In my mind there is one place that is especially good at catering to this feeling: Terrain at Styer’s.  Take a look- you wont regret it.

Terrain is a shop in Glen Mills, PA and while I’ve never been there I have been to their fabulous website.  Clean and fresh, their web site is just an addendum to their extensive storefront.  They carry home accessories, kitchen goodies, garden supplies, vintage finds, and plants galore.  Their styling is so well done- eye grabbing and casual all at once.  Take a look at their original site to see examples of their landscape design, check out their cafe and see what workshops are being offered.

These are just a few of the things I’d have in my basket: (If I were there with a car it would be an entirely different story!)

1.  Ceramic Vegetable Labels (black typewriter font on white ceramic- gorgeous)

2.  Underground Clock

3.  Spindle Planter

4.  Enamel Factory Pendant

5.  Black Hawaiian Sea Salt (not sure what I’m going to put this on, but pretty sure it’s going to be great)

6.  Slate Tray (for cheese and crackers OR for a cluster of potted plants wrapped in newsprint and twine)

7.  Slate Cheese Board

8.  Red Stripe Tablecloth

9.  Fast, Fresh & Green (you had me at fast…)
